SAFA Symposium 2023: Call for Abstracts

The South African Flameproof Association (SAFA) is excited to announce that the 2023 annual symposium will be held on Wednesday, 8 November & Thursday, 9 November 2023 at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park. 

The theme of the symposium is ‘IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY’ and the aim is to share knowledge and information on explosion prevention.  We invite persons and organisations that wish to present papers to submit a short synopsis for consideration. 

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Industry 4.0 Ex
  • Practical Examples:  Mines
  • Practical Examples:  Surface and Manufacturing
  • Test Methods
  • Alternative Energy
  • Non-Electrical Standards 80079-36/37
  • Non-combustible Dust
  • Hazardous location documentation
  • Ex Repairs

Please note that papers should be 30 minutes in duration with 10 minutes reserved for questions and answers.

Closing date for submissions is 31 August 2023

Informal exhibition stands (3x3m) will again be available at the 2023 symposium.  Each exhibitor will be provided with a trestle table, tablecloth and two chairs. A power point can be arranged on request for your stand – 3 phase powers will be available.

Exhibition stands will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, with the best positions allocated first.  Note that space is limited so don’t miss out, book your stand today!

Exhibition rates:

Members:  R5000.00

Non-members:  R6500.00

Exhibitors:  R1500.00

Note:  At least one delegate must register and pay to attend the symposium, further staff members manning the stands only will be charged R1500.00, staff members will not be allowed access to the symposium hall.

Members:  R3 600.00

Non-members: R3 800.00

Team Special (10 delegates):

Members:  R25 000.00

Non-members:  R30 000.00

After 31 August 2023:

Members:  R3 800.00

Non-members:  R4 000.00

This event will be CPD accredited.

You will appreciate that arranging a symposium such as this involves substantial costs, therefore SAFA will again be calling on its members and supporters to sponsor items at the symposium to assist in making the 2023 symposium an unforgettable experience.

SAFA invites members to submit nominations for the 2023 Awards of Excellence.  All nominations received will be evaluated and the awards will be presented during the Cocktail Awards Evening on Wednesday, 8 May 2023.

The submission categories are:

CONTRIBUTION TO SAFETY

A product system or service which has made a significant contribution to safety in hazardous area environments.
